Participate in a study on passenger behaviours and experience in public transport
VTT is seeking participants for a study examining AI solutions to recognise passenger behaviours, emotional states (neutral, positive, and negative), passenger counts, and items carried by passengers.

The study will take place at the Lyyli tram in the Tampere depot area in Hervanta (Kauhakorvenkatu 2, 33720 Tampere). The study is scheduled for Tuesday, 9.12.2025, between 9.30 – 11:30, after which a complimentary lunch is provided.
You qualify for the study if you
- Are over 18 years old
- Are in good general health.
The study is part of the EU-funded OptiPEx research project (https://optipex.eu/), aiming to optimise the passenger experience in public transport.
About the study
In the study, you will participate in a tram journey within the Lyyli Tram operating at the Tampere depot area. This includes normal activities during a tram journey, such as boarding, off-boarding, standing, walking, sitting, scrolling on a smartphone, looking outside/at a particular person/event, and carrying specific items (such as a pram, luggage or bicycle). Additionally, special scenarios will be simulated, including simulated screaming, glass breaking, or other unexpected disturbances. The scenarios will be repeated as many times as possible within a one-hour period, with each complete iteration lasting approximately 6 to 7 minutes.
Participants will be provided with a complimentary lunch.
VTT Ethical Board has approved the study protocol. All information collected from participants will be handled confidentially and will not be shared outside VTT.
