Tampere Tramway finishes ninth at TRAM-EM – Hilda Polamo named Best Female Driver
The Tampere Tramway competition team participated in the European TramDriver Championship competition in Warsaw on 19 September. Tampere finished in ninth place, and Hilda Polamo was ranked the best female driver in the competition based on her score.

The Tram EM competition tested the drivers’ tram handling skills, precision and focus with different driving tasks. The competition featured disciplines such as tram bowling, perfect stopping, speed control, precision braking, with basketball introduced as a new discipline.
The Tampere Tramway team consisted of tram drivers Hilda Polamo and Marek Hilvo and their supervisor, Hanna Hurri, who served as the team’s coach. The trio works for VR, the company responsible for operating Tampere Tramway.
The competition was held in central Warsaw and attracted 26 teams from across Europe, as well as a guest team from Melbourne, Australia. Tampere finished in ninth place, marking the team’s best-ever result in an international tram driver competition. Polamo won the Best Female Driver award based on the highest overall score. She scored 3,035 points.
Tampere first participated in the competition in Frankfurt in 2024, finishing 12th. At the 2025 TramDriver World Championships in Vienna, Tampere finished in 20th place.
