We develop the Tampere Tramway responsibly
Corporate sustainability and responsibility (ESG) is one of the cornerstones of Tampere Tramway Ltd’s strategy. One of the fundamental goals of our company is to “be a responsible pioneer in developing the tramway system.” The ESG policy and ESG programme ratified by our Board of Directors steer our company’s ESG practices. Our operations are in line with the sustainability goals set by our owner municipalities.
Tampere Tramway Ltd. was founded in 2016, and it is owned by the cities of Tampere, Kangasala and Ylöjärvi as well as the municipality of Pirkkala. The company manages the Tampere Tramway infrastructure and owns the tram car fleet. We are responsible for the operations of the Tampere Tramway as a whole. In addition, we steer and coordinate the planning of the regional tramway. We are developing the Tampere Tramway into a public transport system that supports the growth of the urban region.

Our ESG work
Our company has adopted several practices, policies and plans to maintain and advance responsibility and sustainability. The ESG policy and ESG programme ratified by our board of directors guides our company’s ESG work. Our ESG programme is elaborated and concretized in an annually drafted ESG plan. Our current ESG programme is valid until the end of 2025, after which it will be updated to correspond to our next strategy period 2026-2032.
We are a subsidiary of Tampere City Group that advances the goals of Agenda 2030 with its strategic management system. Based on that, we use the Sustainable Development Goals, SDG, adopted by the UN in 2015 (image below), as a framework for our ESG programme. Of these goals, we have selected the following as themes for our own ESG programme:

Our principles of ethical conduct
Our company has adopted principles of ethical conduct that are partly based on Tampere City guidelines.

- We take care of the environment.
Adherence to our principles of ethical conduct is monitored annually. Reviewing them is part of the onboarding programme of our company’s new employees.
