Tampere Tram Mock-up Exhibition gives Tampere residents their first taste of Tampere Tramway’s tram car

The mock-up displayed at Tampere Hall is a great chance to experience the tramway era right now. A full-scale model of Tampere Tramway will be on display from 21–26 February 2019 in the Sorsapuistosali space at Tampere Hall This event is open to the public daily from 2 pm until 7 pm and it’s free of charge. City residents can learn more about the tram car features and Tampere during the tramline era.

The Tampere Tram Mock-up Exhibition brings a model of the Tampere tram car to the Sorsapuistosali space in Tampere Hall. The full-scale Mock-up is a detailed replication of the actual tram car. Visitors can see what Tampere will be like during the tramline era and view the city from the tram car. This is also a chance for visitors to test the seats planned for the tram car, placement of railings and other tram car features that will soon be familiar to passengers. These features have been developed in cooperation with various municipal groups so that they work well in Tampere.

– The tramway will be a personal vehicle for everyone in Tampere. Hopefully as many people as possible will come to see what it’s like to sit in the tram car and also provide us with feedback. The Maketti model lets us test whether the car is accessible and easy to move around in. We want the tramway to be a convenient mode of transport that serves every single passenger, says Lauri Lyly, Mayor of Tampere.

Travel comfort has been designed in cooperation with city residents

The tramway will be the most visible mode of public transport in Tampere in the 2020’s. Implementation aims at bringing a new level of ease and comfort to public transport. The tramway is also emission-free locally, so it fits in well with Tampere’s target of being carbon-neutral by 2030. Completion and implementation will support development of the cityscape, culture, commercial appeal and overall attractiveness of Hämeenkatu and the entire core downtown area,

– The full-scale Mock-up is a detailed replication of the actual tram car. One special target of the display is to present the solutions we’re using to make daily travel easier. More information about the content of the exhibition will be available later, explains Pekka Sirviö, CEO of Tampere Tramway Ltd.

The reviews that were arranged in March–April 2018 allowed municipal groups to visit Transtech Oy’s Oulu location and learn more about the tram car spaces and solutions via a full-scale preliminary wooden mock-up of the car. A total of six groups assessed the tram car from the perspectives of general usability, accessibility and travelling with a children’s pram or bicycle. The composition of the review groups was planned in cooperation with different organisations and associations. Design work continued based on the feedback received from the reviews, leading to production of the full-scale Mock-up now being introduced at Tampere Hall.
